In 1997 an organization called Parent Advocates for Special Services (PASS) for parents of adult children with developmental disabilities was formed. Two parents, Nancy Greenwald and Beverly Andreos, both with Special Needs sons, formed PASS. The support group's mission was to address the needs, desires and expectations of families in order to benefit the lives of their children.

The real value of these monthly meetings has been to create an opportunity for families to develop a support network of friends and exchange information that helps them in the daily lives of their children.

Many friendships have been formed which is what has been the inspiration and motivation for families to still meet.

Recognizing the value and impact this monthly meeting has had on the Poway Special Needs community of families over many years,

now that families have adults, who have many friends in the Poway area, the issue is how to provide a social network so that their social and emotional needs are met.

The city has been very supportive over the years when asked to support the special needs community. Some great examples have been their willingness to open the Winter Snow Festival in January, 1 hour before the gates are open to the public. For 12 years the mayor and city council have umpired the November Heroes softball game with Poway Padres special Olympic team, Team Vargas girls' softball travel team, Fireman and Sheriffs since 2015, A community BBQ with entertainment at Lake Poway, was sponsored by city and community leaders as part of the two-day hosting activities for the Special Olympic soccer team from Ecuador before they went to the World Games in LA in 2014.

When approached about a Social Club, the city was very responsive to suggesting using the Mickey Cafagna Center.

We look forward to seeing everyone enjoy their old and new friendships.
